Environmental Footprint

Did you know?

...that eLiasz and eLLa Jewelry is run on green electricity that comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from Canadian renewable energy facilities.

We currently displace 1.6 tonnes of CO2e per year by running our office and studio operations here in Edmonton, Alberta on an estimated 850 kWh of clean, renewable energy/month.

This is in addition to our ongoing investment in Canadian certified carbon offset credits to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions footprint from our shipping supply-chain.

We chose Canadian clean energy provider, Spark Power - BullfrogPower and Less Emissions as our clean energy and emissions offset partners.

As an independent, Canadian company, there are many steps we can take to address our environmental footprint.

We don’t pretend to have all the answers but we do acknowledge the need to do what is right and take action. We will take steps to address our environmental footprint, in our own unique ways.

Some of our initial steps in what we consider - the right direction:

Bubble wrap is no longer used for packaging any retail and/or wholesale orders. It was officially banned from e&e in 2021 (transitional year), replaced with recyclable newsprint.

All of our branded tissue paper is is printed with soy-based inks, on FSC-certified paper, and is Acid, sulphur, and lignin-free. Our tissue is 100% compostable, recyclable, and made from recycled materials.

Our branded tissue manufacturer is also an Eco-Alliance partner, which means that trees are planted in areas in need of reforestation, including projects in British Columbia and Ontario, when we custom order e&e branded tissue paper.

Single use plastic is our next major area to address as we explore alternatives for our packaging. We have a lot to learn as we explore options to switch from oil-based plastics to plastics made from sustainably produced bio-based raw materials. This will not solve the issue of plastic pollution in its entirety but it will help to reduce our dependence on single-use fossil raw materials as a company.

We continue to invest in reducing our carbon footprint through high-quality carbon offsets to help address the emissions created by transportation of our jewelry. Our goal is to achieve carbon neutral shipping.

These are just a few small steps we are taking on our long journey to do better!
