To our Wonderful e&e Community,
Unfortunately, the Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) continue their strike action. As a result, there are continued disruptions to all mail delivery across Canada, which absolutely affects how you receive your e&e orders. Our shipping standards (estimated times) are currently suspended as they are unachievable.
The best example is a recent order for $54.24 CAD including tax to Greater Sudbury, ONTARIO. To ship this order, the cost of shipping alone was $40.95 CAD including tax via FedEx (the lowest cost option from four shippers).
Factoring in the quality manufacturing cost of e&e jewelry, Canadian Federal Government compliance, insurance costs, sales tax (GST, HST), import tax, exchange rates, shipping materials, packaging, payment gateway charges, digital platform charges and labour. Our independent Canadian company loses a lot of money on each one of these orders, making it an unsustainable practice.
Canada Post being our primary shipping partner with significant shipping volumes we ship across Canada, results in significant discounts, which we translate into FREE SHIPPING for our wonderful customers for tracked and untracked shipments.
e&e Shipping Standards Explained
The reality of the Canada Post strike, coupled with extraordinary shipping costs and inflationary pressures has forced us to suspend shipping of orders under $100 CAD until the Canada Post strike is over.
Our experience from the Canada Post strike action in 2018, the back-log volumes at Canada Post deports significantly increases the risk of orders being lost, once shipping gets going again. It is prudent for us to ship out orders under $100 CAD a few business days after the strike action concludes.
We will continue to ship orders over $100 CAD direct to customers through our alternative shipping partners, absorbing the significant cost and NOT passing the cost to our dear customers.
However, deliveries to Post Office Boxes (PO BOX) is not possible as only Canada Post has access to these boxes. In addition, rural customers that are not serviced by other shippers can only pickup orders at the closest shipper depot, which for some is not easily accessible and only in major city and town shipping hubs.
We are aligned with the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses (CFIB) calling on the Federal Government to step in and get Canada Post employees back to work (i.e. binding arbitration).
We appreciate and understand the Canada Post and Canadian Union of Postal Workers position and desire for fair compensation under a bargaining agreement but it is becoming clear, third-party intervention from the government is required immediately.
Please contact us directly about your current and planned orders if you have any questions, considering these unfortunate circumstances.
